The Association was formed on 25th March 1929 during a period of rapid development in the town, with the object of encouraging the preservation of amenities and the betterment of West Wickham with no political affiliations.
The composition and character of our town, both in buildings and population, has changed considerably since those early days, but the objectives remain as relevant as they were then.
Our Committee consists of three officers: Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary – and up to 10 Committee members, we meet once a month to deal with the business of the Association, promoting residents’ common interests with Bromley Council, Transport for London, the Police, Health Authorities and numerous other bodies whose activities influence our local quality of life.
Through its large membership WWRA can – and often does – act as a forum for a collective approach which is more likely to yield result than individual initiatives. The Annual General meeting is held in April when officer and members are formally elected.
Over the years we have been involved with the festivities celebrating milestones including key royal events.
Our most recent conservation project was the upgrading of the ground around the War Memorial and the restoration of the Memorial Stones to the Reverend Henry Bertie Roberts and Sir Henry Arthur Hallam Farnaby Lennard, both in conjunction with Co-op Funeral Services.
The Committee also supports local events. A past local headmaster always referred to West Wickham as a “big village” which WWRA subscribes to as one of its aims – to bring the community together for mutual benefit (not shaded, can get rid of colour).
The Committee currently consists of three officers (Chair, Treasurer and Secretary), who are elected each year at the AGM. The chair can serve a maximum of two years.
