UPDATE on major gas works: Croydon Road, Beckenham – No 3

We have now completed phase two and have started on phase three today. We expect to complete our work by the end of Sunday 1 September. There are however some slight changes to the traffic management we will have in place throughout phase three and details of this can be found below;

Phase One – Croydon Road, junction with Elmers End Road

  • This phase progressed well and was completed a week earlier than planned on Saturday 27 July

Phase Two – Croydon Road, between junction of Elmers End Road and Clock House Road

  • This phase encountered major engineering difficulties that led to it lasting two and a half weeks longer than planned and being completed on Tuesday 27 August
  • We have now re-opened Croydon Road to eastbound traffic travelling from Croydon / Long Lane / Tesco’s. Traffic will be able to turn left into Elmers End Road (towards Anerley / Crystal Palace) as normal
  • Westbound traffic on Croydon Road, travelling from Beckenham / Elmerside Road will be able to travel westbound towards Croydon and turn right into Elmers End Road as normal
  • The temporary traffic signals at the junction of Elmers End Road and Croydon Road have been removed, and the permanent traffic signals switched back on

Phase Three – Elmerside Road, junction with Croydon Road

  • From today (Wednesday 28 August), our engineers have moved away from the junction of Croydon Road and Elmers End Road to begin work on Elmerside Road at its junction with Croydon Road in the right-hand turn junction for approximately five days
  • To allow us to complete our work safely we have temporarily closed the right-hand turn lane of Elmerside Road at the junction of Croydon Road. Motorists will not be able to turn right from Elmerside Road onto Croydon Road
  • The pedestrian crossing around our work area will also be suspended
  • Our temporary closure of the southbound left-hand turn lane of Elmers End Road will now remain in place during this phase. Motorists will not be able to turn left from Elmers End Road onto Croydon Road
  • Signed diversions will be in place for diverted traffic

The Elmers End Tesco bus stand at St Margarets Road will remain closed to buses/traffic until the end of this week. Therefore, no buses will stop or serve the stops at the bus stand. There will be a temporary bus stand at the Elmerside Green Roundabout but for full info regarding bus services, please check TfL website: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/.

We do appreciate the inconvenience these works have caused and would like to thank you once again for your patience and understanding while we have carried out this project.
