Summer Archaeology at Kenley Revival

This month our activities will be focusing on our annual archaeology dig. We will be excavating on Bunker Bank (close to the Officers’ Mess) and hosting an Open Day on Saturday 20 June, from 10am – 2pm, so come along to see what we have been up to.

Artefact of the Month!

The Log Book of Air Commodore Cyril Bob Brown CBE, AFC.

This object is the most recent item to be added to the online archive.

Recently, we had the great pleasure of meeting Peter Brown, the son of Air Commodore Cyril Bob Brown CBE, AFC, who served at RAF Kenley at the end of 1940, as a Sergeant pilot with No.253 Squadron.

Peter allowed us to photograph the page from Brown’s log book detailing his flying activities during his time at Kenley.

In May 1942, Cyril lost his eye in combat, flying with No.616 squadron. Remarkably, after a relatively quick recovery, he returned to his duties as a pilot and had a long and varied career in the RAF.

We have an amazing online archive where you can upload memories, photographs, documents or links to other online sources which relate to RAF Kenley’s history. We rely on the community to help us build what could be the most extensive resource of all things relating to RAF Kenley’s Battle of Britain past.

Conservation Seminar

Thank you to everyone who attended our Conservation Seminar last month, it was a fantastic day with some great presentations all showcasing different ways that projects across England have conserved 20th-century military architecture. A special thanks to Jane Sidell and Wayne Cocroft for chairing the day, and another big thank you to all of our speakers, who were brilliant.

We will be posting a summary of the seminar on our website later this week, so watch this space!

Community Archaeology Open Day 2019

Come along to Bunker Bank (close to the Officers’ Mess) to explore this year’s archaeological excavaitions. Handle our artefacts and meet our expert archaeologists. Activities for kids will be running too.

Volunteer Survey 2019

We are carrying out a volunteer survey to help us understand what you think about your role within the Kenley Revival Project. There is a simple online form that you can fill in. It shouldn`t take more than a couple of minutes to complete.
