On the 19th February 2018, policing in West Wickham came under the control of a new management structure.
The Metropolitan Police have established Basic Command Units (BCUs) across London which merge Policing activities in groups of adjacent Boroughs. Our BCU covers Bromley, Croydon and Sutton under the command of Chief superintendent Jeff Boothe.
The Met have to make savings of a further £325m by 2021 and such a rationalisation of command, plus sharing of buildings, officers and resources across the BCU will contribute to achieving this. The Met and Mayor of London are standing by a commitment to have two dedicated Ward Officers (DWOs) and one Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) in each ward. For West Wickham these are PC Ed Morris, PC Adam Picken and PCSO Colin Wright.
Although it is easy to understand the reasons for the change, only time will tell if there are any adverse effects on our Police cover in West Wickham.
