Summer is nearly upon us and wintry weather is probably the last thing on your mind, but did you know in bygone years there have even been late snow flurries in June, therefore we should never become complacent.
The last few years may have been relatively mild, but cast your mind back to The Big Freeze where the whole of the United Kingdom was blanketed in thick snow by 7 January 2010. Who knows when the next Big Freeze will hit us, but at least we can all be as prepared as is reasonably practicable!
We pride ourselves in Bromley as having one of the best self-help schemes in the country –Snow Friends, where residents can assist with removing snow from residential roads using salt and snow scoops provided free of charge by the council. A good motto for anyone who hasn’t already registered for the scheme could be:
“Remember… be prepared and please don’t wait, once the snow has fallen it’s far too late!”.
Whether you are already one of our thousands of Snow Friends, who we would like to thank in person, or you wish to find out more about the scheme, I am writing to give you plenty of notice so you can pencil an important date into your diary. On Tuesday evening, 19 September we will be hosting the 2017 Snow Friend Conference in the Council Chamber, followed by networking with councillors, officers and existing Snow Friends over a buffet in the Mayoral Suite. This will give you an opportunity to ask any questions about what the council does during the winter months and how you can help keep your street safe.
Do please let us know if you would like to attend by replying to firstname.lastname@example.org subject to space we will reserve you a place and send you a formal invitation nearer the time.
