17th April 2023Healthy rivers – how you can help
Following the pollution incident on the Beck (through High Broom Wood) reported in the Winter 2022 Newsletter, I contacted the “Ravensbourne Riverfly” volunteers, who monitor the health of our local rivers by collecting monthly data on the freshwater invertebrates in the Ravensbourne catchment. They have recently started monitoring High Broom Wood and I can thankfully report that the Beck remains healthy there.
Ravensbourne Riverfly is run by and for volunteers who are passionate about the condition of our rivers, and they would welcome anyone wishing to get involved in this citizen science project. Training for new volunteers interested in joining this project will be in late April/early May and will be run by Thames21 and the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). They intend to arrange a ‘WaterBlitz’ on Tuesday 30th May 2023 (10am –2pm) across the whole catchment. See the poster below for more details and link on how to register.
