A Morning with Moths
Last month the rangers ran a ‘Morning with Moths and Butterflies’ event at Spring Park. Following a warm night with a moth trap placed outside, attendees were introduced to a plethora of moth species. A grand total of 27 different species were identified, recorded and marveled at including a feathered gothic with striking white markings and a crimson red underwing – a species which looks inconspicuous at first glance but has a streak of vivid red when in flight. Most of the night-flying moths will come to light so keep an eye out for moths around outdoor lights and see what you can find.
