OUR MEMORIAL TREE HAS BEEN PLANTED – AT LAST!!

Yes the long awaited Davidia Involucrata tree, which was purchased in memory of our colleague and friend Barbara Baxter, who sadly died in July 2016, was planted on Wednesday 21st February in Blake Park.

The tree has pride of place just behind the teen area in a nicely sheltered, grassy space and where it will be protected by a number of mature trees nearby. Barbara’s husband Robert, who is our current newsletter editor, assisted with the planting (see below).

The Davidia, a stunning tree and one that Barbara particularly liked, is also known as ‘the handkerchief tree’ because of the large white bracts that drape the tree in May, but it will be a few years before our tree is mature enough to display it’s handkerchiefs.
